Peanut Day 2017

We began the day with a lot of peanuts and ended the day with much success. Thank you to everyone who supports our mission - “Improving the world one child and one community at a time. “. Our 75 members who were out today in our community make this happen every year all for the kids.



Stuff the Bus Backpack Presentation

Norfolk Noon Kiwanis President, Shari Thomas presents Brooke Bouck of the Norfolk Family Coalition with 48 backpacks for the Stuff the Bus Program. Various donation buses have been out in our local churches and stores to collect donations from the general public.  Some busses will stay out till the end of August. This allows for further donations to occur that will be utilized throughout the year if needed on emergency basis or for the next year. Individuals and families that are in need of the assistance will contact Salvation Army to set up appointments to apply for the assistance. Families have to till August 4th to apply for this year.  


Reach Out and Read Presentation

Scholarship Winners from Norfolk High Recognized


Congratulations to our Norfolk High School Scholarship winners Chloe Strong and Whitney Lindsey.  They were both honored at our weekly meeting along with their parents.  We wish you the best of luck in your bright futures.  These honorees will be recognzied again at the Norfolk High awards ceremony on Thursday, May 18th beginning at 7:00 p.m.


Youth Track 2017

It was a chilly evening but you wouldn't have known it by the turn out for the Track Events for Youth Track. The kids competed in hurdles, the 400 m dash, 800 m dash, 50 m dash and 100 m dash.   Over 500 children registered for this year's Youth Track.  Special thanks to the Morning and Noon Optimist Clubs and the Norfolk High Track Team for their assistance in making this event a success for the kids.

Church Youth Recognition - April 3, 2017

The second half of our church youth were recognized today.   These students were nominated by their Pastors as youth who exemplified their faith, their service to the community and their activities in church. Katelyn Mjoe- Christ Lutheran Church, Dru Pieper - Sacred Heart Parish, and Lane McCallum - Our Savior Lutheran Church. Congratulations to our Church Youth of the Year.  These students were nominated by their Pastors as youth who exemplified their faith, their service to the community and their activities in church. Speakers during the month of March 2017 were focused on government.  John Dinkel spoke about the Electoral College and  Mayor of Norfolk, Josh Moenning discussed some of his goals during his term as Mayor.

The Norfolk Noon Kiwanis Club supports the youth in our community through the Teammates Mentoring Program.  Several of our members serve as mentees to youth and we recently gave a financial contribution which helps provide scholarships to mentees who will be graduating and pursing post-secondary education.  President Shari Thomas presents Susie Buss, Kiwanian and Teammates Coordinator with a check for $250 to the Norfolk Area Teammates on March 20, 2017.

Congratulations to our March Students of the Month who were honored at our weekly meeting on Monday, March 20th, 2017.  Those honored were Paige Lee and Megan O'Gorman from Norfolk High School and Caleb Gehardt from Lutheran High Northeast.  The Norfolk Noon Kiwanis Club is proud of you and would like to give  special thanks to the parents for their work in raising these fine students.  Congratulations!  Each month we honor students for their excellence as nominated by their school guidance counselors.  For more photos visit our photo gallery for the 2017 Kiwanis year.


Key Club and Builder's Club Sponsors Jodi Ronspies and Celise Swanson present tie blankets made by the respective clubs to Kelli Wacker of the Northeast Nebraska Child Advocacy Center.  The blankets provide much comfort and warmth to children at the center.  Thank you Key Club and Builder's Club!



The NPS Primetime reading program is active in Grant, Washington, Jefferson and Westside Elementary schools.  The program funded by The Nebraska Humanities Fund gives children and families another opportunity to learn the importance of reading.  We are so glad that Karolee Gleason and Lori Coffin stopped by to give our club insight into this important program.




The Norfolk Noon Kiwanis is proud to support the Strong Kids Campaign at the YMCA.  Our contribution is making a difference in the lives of children who may not otherwise be able to participate in YMCA activities.  President Shari Thomas presents Barb Preusker of the Norfolk Family YMCA with a contribution at our weekly meeting on December 19th.  



Congratulations to our December Students of the Month and their parent. They are Hannah Matthies and Christian Eisenhauer from Norfolk Senior High, Molly Knake from Norfolk Catholic and Amie Colligan from Lutheran High Northeast (not present).  We congratulate you on your success and leadership and wish you much success in your bright futures.


The Annual Children's Christmas Shopping Event was held on Saturday, December 3rd. Norfolk Noon Kiwanians and Key Club members hearts were "full" as we assisted 18 children in making sure their families would have a gift this Christmas season. At our Noon Meeting on Monday, November 28th we hear from Lacy Kimes who is heading up the Project Homeless Connect Event that will be held in Norfolk at Norfolk Senior High School on Friday, June 23 2017.  Project Homeless Connect will assit those who are homeless or who are near homelessness.  More information is listed below.



We thank Mike Strong, Norfolk Police Department for his presentation on the K-9 dog that he trains and works along side everyday on the Norfolk Police Force.  We appreciate your service to the Norfolk community and in the surrounding areas when needed.

Luke Bloomenberg was our Lutheran High Northeast, October Student of the Month and Bethany Bockelman, our November Lutheran High Northeast Student of the Month.  They were unable to attend on the original dates so they were honored on November 28th, 2016. Congratulations to both of these students on their accomplishments in their young life.  We wish these students the best in their bright futures.



Congratulations to our November Students of the Month.  They are Luke Blomenberg (October) and Bethany Bockelman of Lutheran High Northeast (not pictured), Jana Unger of Norfolk Catholic and Jessica Long and Alex Hannapel of Norfolk Senior High.  The Norfolk Noon Kiwanis Club wishes these students the best in their future endeavors.


On Monday, November 14, 2016 we joined with the Key Club to package meals for those in need around the world at Mercy Meals.  We packaged enough boxes in an hour to feed almost 4,000 people. #makingadifference


Peanut Day 2016 was held on Wednesday, October 5th.  What a beautiful day!  We come together for one cause to raise money for the kids each year.  We thank the Norfolk and surrounding communities for their generosity and suppor.


Our End of Year Celebration - Celebrate 2016 was held in September. The following Norfolk Noon Kiwanians were recognized by President Heidi McNally:

Candy Allen - Ms. Kiwanis  - for her knowledge about Kiwanis and being Heidi's right hand.  Shalle Wolff - Kiwanian of the Year, for leading the Meetings and Fellowship Committee and having great speakers and fellowship lined up in 2016. Diane Mouchka - Membership Award for recruiting the most new members in 2016.  Cindy Booth - Sponsored Youth Award for 8-years of service to K-Kids as the sponsor. Brian Rech - Mr. Kiwanis, for his 8-years of dedication to the Kiwanis Camp as Camp Committee Chair and for all of the work completed at the camp.

The Norfolk Kiwanis Club Charter was passed from outgoing president Heidi McNally to incoming president Shari Thomas for 2016-2017.

President elect, Shari Thomas presents Citizenship Awards to Norfolk Junior High 7th Grade Students Monday, May 16th, 2016.  The citizenship awards are sponsored by the Norfolk Noon Kiwanis and presented annually to students who display outstanding leadership, respect and who good citizens amongst their peers.  Congratulations to these students who are our future!

We thank Val Grimes, City of Norfolk for updating us on happenings with the City of Norfolk as well as educating us about the upcoming comprehensive planning.

During the weekly meeting on November 16th, 2015 President Heidi McNally presented a check for $500 to Club Veterans to help the Norfolk Vet's Home purchase a new van.  The van's help transport Veterans to and from various appointments. November 2014 Students of the Month were recognized on November 10th. Students receiving honors were:  Emily Funk of Norfolk Catholic, Jaden Moore of Norfolk High and Kyle Rosberg of Lutheran High Northeast.  Chase Hutchinsonwas honored in October but present at the November meeting.  Congratulations to these students on all of their accomplishments.
 October 2014 Students of the Month were recognized with a full house in attendance on Monday, October 27th.  Students receiving honors were: Geena Piper of Norfolk Catholic, Arianna Rathke of Lutheran High Northeast and Chase Hutchison of Norfolk High (not pictured)
During the Nebraska-Iowa District Convention on August 9th in Omaha, our own Steve McNally was installed as Governor for the 2014-2015 Fiscal year.  We are honored to have Steve as a member of our club and we look forward to your continued leadership.

We are proud of our Key Club that took the initiative to come up with a fund raiser for our neighbors to the east in Pilger after a tornado destroyed much of their town in a June tornado. They held a car bash on a recent weekday evening and sold opportunities to take a hit at the car.  All funds raised were donated directly to Pilger.
On Monday, June 30th Norfolk Noon Kiwanians met after hours for a 5th Monday event.  Special guest Nebraska Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Shimmy Gray-Miller spoke to Kiwanians and their prospective member guests about the importance of finding your passion in life and doing what you love to do.  It was a great inspirational message and we appreciate Coach taking time out of her busy schedule to come speak to us in Norfolk.  Special thanks to vice president Linnea Gettman on arranging for this visit by the the coach. Go Huskers!

Mebers of the Nebraska/Iowa team met June 20-21st in St. Louis along with over 900 other Kiwanians to receive training on building up our clubs and membership recruiting.  Everett Breach, Mechele Grimes and Steve & Heidi McNally attended on behalf of the Norfolk Noon Kiwanis.
Join us on Monday, June 30th for the oppotunity to hear Nebraska Women's Basketball Assistant Coach Shimmy Gray-Miller and network with your fellow Kiwanians.
Spring 2014 Norfolk Noon Kiwanis New Member Training was recently held at the Norfolk Country Club.  A big thanks to the board, Bob Marshall and President Brandon Doke for their participation in making the training informative for our newest members.
May 10th marked the end of the Youth Track 2014 Season.  Norfolk Noon Kiwanians worked side-by-side with the Optimists Clubs as well as parent and student volunteers to make this event successful for the youth in Norfolk and Northeast Nebraska.  Thank you to everyone who played a part in the success of this program.

On Monday, May 5th the annual Church Youth Celebration was held.  Those hononred were:

On Monday, March 31st, Jessi Doke spoke to the club about her experience with the Nebraska LEAD program.  The Nebraska LEAD began over 30 years ago to develop agricultural leaders from Nebraska's future generations.  To learn more go to


Kiwanian Everett Breach was presented with the distinguished member award.  Everett has been a faithful Kiwanian since 1962 and consistently recruits new members to the club. Congratulations Everett!


On Monday, February 10th Erin Swanson of Norfolk and current America's Miss US Tween spoke about her experience of being a pageant contestant.  Personal growth and learning the importance of "giving back" are just two of the components of being a pageant contestant.
